Children's
Programs at Highland Presbyterian Church
|
Highland Presbyterian Church has a strong commitment to the growth,
education and spiritual nourishment of our children. It is through
the children that we see the future – not only of this church
family, but Christ’s Church as well. As we minister to our
children, we always keep in mind the words found in Proverb 22:6 –
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he
will not depart form it.” Christ loves our children and calls upon
each of us to extend that love, remembering that our children are
our greatest legacy.

Nursery (Birth -
Kindergarden)
The Children's Ministry of Highland provides a nursery program
during Sunday School and Sunday Worship Services (8:45 a.m. - 11:00
a.m.). The purpose of our nursery program is to minister to families
of small children. Our nurseries are staffed by paid and volunteer
workers who want to share God's love with our children and their
parents. Highland understands the importance of being able to reach
parents of infants during Sunday School and Worship Services. The
infant nursery has beepers available for parents who request them.
If you have questions about the nursery program, call Annabel
Pender, Director of Highland Learning Center (910-485-2591. Children
2 and up are grouped according to their age as of October 15th.

Extended
Church
Following the Children’s Sermon each Sunday, preschoolers,
kindergarteners and 1st graders are dismissed to Extended
Church. Preschool meets in Room 133 in the Highland Learning Center
and K-1st grade meets downstairs in SonValley. |
 | Acolytes for Worship
Third Grade children may participate in the Worship
Service by lighting the candles on the altar. This is a
special opportunity for the children of our church to
participate in the life of the church. If your child would
like to train to be an acolyte, contact Georgeanna

FUNdamentals of Worship
Changes are underway for our FUNdamentals of Worship class.
Until we put the finishing touches on our plan, 2nd graders
will return to their seats with their parents after the
Children’s Moment. Parents of 2nd graders should
look for information regarding FUNdamentals of Worship to
arrive in your homes in early September. We think you’ll be
pleased with the changes. For information, contact Georgeanna
English at 485-2147, or e-mail gbebanana@aol.com. |

Children's
Sermons
We
believe that sermons are an essential part of the church's ministry,
especially for children. Each Sunday, we invite the children to move
forward to the Chancel steps for "their message." Our hope is that
these are more than simple object lessons, but illustrate that God's
love is exciting and real and that children have a significant part
in the sharing of that love. If you are interested in sharing a
message with our children, contact Georgeanna English at 485-2147, or e-mail

Cherub Choir -

praises to God! Each Sunday, Mrs. Connie meets with 3 and 4
year olds from 9:55am -10:15am in the Children’s Choir room
for Cherub Choir. The children learn songs that they will
share in worship services throughout the year. Following

class by their teachers.

Catechism
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays
The Catechism program has a longstanding history here at
Highland, and one of which we are quite proud! Fifth and sixth
graders who haven’t already done so participate in this
program that teaches the basics of our Christian beliefs and
is an integral part of our Christian Education Curriculum. It
prepares them as they move towards church membership and a
profession of faith. This year, Catechism will meet on
Tuesdays from 4:15pm -5:15pm and Wednesdays at 3:45pm-4:45pm. Children who are eligible for
this class will receive more detailed information on the
class. Contact Carol Beckham at 485-3425 if you have any
questions about this program.
